Golf Etiquette - In Golf, Politeness Counts

  1. Do not talk, move, or make a sound while a player is playing a shot.
  2. Do not stand behind a player; rather stand on the right side of the tee.
  3. Never get ahead of another player.
  4. Do not stand, walk or cast a shadow in a player's putting line.
  5. When it is your turn to play, be ready.
  6. When finished putting, leave the green and mark your score on the next tee.
  7. Mark your ball before picking it up.
  8. The player farthest from the pin plays first.
  9. Repair your ball marks on the green, and replace your divots on the fairway, and rake bunker after use.
  10. Keep carts at least 30 feet from greens and tees.
  11. Check to see you are hitting the correct ball.
  12. Take only one practice swing before hitting the ball.
  13. Only spend 60 seconds looking for a lost ball.
  14. Be careful players in front are out of range before hitting.
  15. Shout "FORE" when someone is in danger of being hit.
  16. Allow faster players to play through; if a hole opens in front of you, you are playing too slow.
  17. Never improve your lie of the ball unless you are playing "winter rules".
  18. When you are in a wrong fairway, give right-of-way to those playing in the proper fairway.
