Golfers teeing off
  A Myrtle Beach Road Trip!
by Melody Borchers

February to May are the infamous months for snow birds heading south. Many of us from the north are hungry for sun, fun, sand and relaxation. Retirees, spring breakers, families and couples all share in the lure of warm locations. For men, a well know part of this migration is the annual, group golf trip.

Southern states, particularly Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, cater to this eager group of northern male golfers. South Carolina courses put togerther very attractive golf packages. Adds abound with offers such as six nights of luxury lodging, six rounds of golf, air fare and a rental car for the more up-scale traveler.

Most of my male colleagues and friends who head to South Carolina, go with a group of 6-8 buddies, stay together in a condo, play at least 36 holes of golf a day and loose more on "skins" than their entire trip costs them! These guys also tell me they are then too tired to participate in the local night life.

I have always wanted to do the "girls" version of this trip. Taking advantage of the same great packages, but with a slightly different agenda. On the way down, while we still had money, we would hit the famous outlet stores and load our vans with pottery, glassware and clothes. Once in Myrtle Beach, we would play a more reasonable 18 holes of day a day and include golf shot and skill lessons.

As an option, on any given day, we would tour local sites and check out the exclusive retailers. Our plantation condo would include a whirlpool, exercise facility and the services of a masseuse. We would go out every night and enjoy coffee on the dock before the morning round of golf. It goes without saying, we would definitely work in some time on the beach.

I talked myself into it. I feel a Myrtle Beach road trip coming on!
